My practice is multidisciplinary, working across mixed media, sculpture, print, painting and photography. I am interested in the stories we tell ourselves, and those that others tell us, and in the tracks, traces and shadows these stories leave behind.
Photography is often a starting point for exploring a subject. I use it to observe, record and question what is in front of me, but also as a way of looking beyond the surface. Images may then become fragmented, layered, printed, painted over, or transformed into three-dimensional forms. I enjoy allowing one process to lead unexpectedly into another.
Experimentation is central to my practice. I am more interested in the artistic journey than in arriving at a predetermined end result. I work intuitively, responding to materials, images and discoveries as they emerge. Mistakes, accidents and changes of direction are not failures, but part of the process and often lead the work somewhere more interesting.
Through this ongoing exploration, I seek to create work that holds traces of its own making and invites the viewer to consider the stories, memories and perceptions that shape how we understand ourselves and the world around us.
