Jo Ann Millar

Jo’s ceramic pieces are almost always built using the coiling method. She works intuitively, hand building in response to visual and emotional experiences, natural forms and organic subject matter, and places she’s visited. Recent visits to India have deeply inspired her work.

It is true that her pieces can hold an intensity with the viewer, allowing space for individual interpretation and/or narrative.

You can expect to see brightly coloured and intensely decorative ornamental items for the home, (some with 24 carat gold and/or semiprecious and crystal inclusions) as well as large-scale abstract sculptural forms as raw, organic, statuesque pieces.

Jo balances roles such as artist in residence in hospitals and community settings, has trained post-graduates to become teachers and has 30 years’ experience of teaching of 11-18 years olds. She has also collaborated with an elite shoe designer and had window installations throughout the brand’s international stores.
