Ben Broadbent

I am Ben Broadbent, Husband, Father and Fine Arts Graduate working primarily in contemporary figurative sculpture.

I use the figure to explore  varied aspectPhysicalStrength.

Art has always been a refuge. As a child I filled sketchbooks with imagined heroes, courageous and powerful. The idea of the hero is still prominent in my work though with maturity.  I often subvert the concept to explore the rich and curious layers of the human psyche.

I am fascinated by mammalian anatomy. Particularly the way evolution has pulled and pushed the same basic bones to achieve a range of extraordinary specificacies. I’ll often borrow from the animal kingdom to emphasise a particular human trait.

I like a piece to have a sense of narrative . Some of my pieces are best understood as frames from a movie storyboard merged into a singular object. I intend for these pieces to be experimental, questioning and encouraging.

My available body of work is cast in bronze though I am experimenting with various modern media. I am happy to discuss commissions and collaborations and am always looking for ways to reach out and be of service so get in touch!
