Diana Zapata Mejia

My name is Diana Zapata Mejia. I was born in Colombia and studied Arts at the District University of Bogotá. I obtained a Degree in Fine Arts in 2003.

I explore and communicate using a multidisciplinary approach.

This encompasses ceramics, sculpture, drawing, painting, installation and collage.
Recently, I have begun to explore writing, performance and video.

The human body and psyche are subject to continual and unpredictable changes.

This unpredictability means that the psyche remains vulnerable and fragile.

The exploration of this vulnerability and fragility forms the foundation of my work.

The human body and psyche appear to serve as our primary means of existence.

Through philosophy and art, I want to explore the essence of this existence.

I aim to create intimate projects that examine and portray the fragility of being human.

I am developing my research practice and creative journey by exploring and connecting different materials and methods with emotions.

Through the method of integrating media, such as merging drawing with sculpture, and performance, I aim to philosophically explore what it’s like to be alive in the mystery of life.

By using the physical body as a means to reflect on, my goal is to challenge what we think about ourselves and encourage exploration.
