Strata Mosaic by Angela Williams

Angela Williams

After a career in graphic design and studying for a degree in Fine Art, Angela co-founded the TomatoJack Arts Studio in Berkeley, in 2011 and has been working in the medium of mosaic ever since.

Mosaic at its most basic is a collection of parts, which depending on how they are placed create patterns, lines and movement.  Angela loves everything about the mosaic process; the sketching and planning, the experimenting with materials and new techniques, the choice of andamento (the flow of the mosaic) and colour, the frustration of nipping the perfect tesserae and yes, even the grouting!

She has an individual approach to mosaic and works mainly in glass and ceramic tiles as well as recycled materials to produce pieces that are vibrant, inventive and unique.  Angela takes her inspiration from nature and the geometric abstract shapes of landscape and fauna, exploring these architectural qualities by using different textures and perspectives.

Angela has attended numerous mosaic workshops and courses in both the UK and abroad and is a professional member of the British Association for Modern Mosaic (BAMM).
