Rachel Pearson
Rachel is a figurative sculptor and mixed media artist, and works from her home studio in the Cheltenham area. She has always had a passion for creativity, and after a diverse career including digital media and communications, she began to fully focus on her artistic journey in 2023.
She initially explored sculpture through a series of short figurative courses at The Sculpture School. There, she developed a foundational understanding of anatomy and the human form, creating realistically proportioned figures and features in clay.
Rachel further expanded her skills through continued practice and additional short portrait courses, taught by a range of master sculptors and tutors applying various approaches, with the aim of finding her own sculptural identity.
Whether shaping realistic figures or more stylised forms, her work continues to evolve, incorporating soft, flowing curves. She is drawn to the subtle expressions in people’s faces, as well as gestures and movements of the body, aiming to convey emotion through each piece.
Her mixed media work includes painted and varnished botanical bas-relief casts, and she is now applying this approach to sculptural forms in Jesmonite, achieving a final finish that resembles glazed, fired clay.
