Emma Kemp

Emma’s sculptures explore human experience: from how we feel, to how we move, to how we deal with life.  Emma works in clay to capture moments in our lives that shape or define us: such as a man desperately trying to turn the page he is standing on or a figure exploring their physical balance.   Sculpting people in these scenarios helps her process life experiences, as well reflect on our collective humanity and physical capabilities.

The clay figures are cast into predominantly bronze resin and bronze, yet also include other materials in the presentation of the figure: several of her figures interact with objects, to create a narrative and contribute to the emotion of the piece.

Emma is fascinated by the human figure; she takes great pleasure in studying anatomy to inform her sculpture, as well as understand how the body moves.  Her figures have a unique texture that reveals her workings in the clay:  the clay is applied in a way that accentuates the muscles, to celebrate the beauty of the human form.
